          MAUSTON?Hay tainted by a toxic beetle is blamed for thedeaths of 14 horses and illnesses to dozens ofothers on a Wisconsin ranch. Steadyrain and flooding this past summer left the hay infields at Red Ridge Riding Stable in Maustonunusable. So, the owners, Cindy Kanarowski-Petersonand her husband, Lyle Peterson, purchased six semiloads of hay and alfalfa from farms in South Dakotaand Wyoming to feed their horses.

          MADISON?Wisconsin Republicans are introducing a packageof bills that would impose tougher sanctions andsentences on criminals. Thelegislation would require the Department ofCorrections to recommend revoking a person抯extended supervision, parole or probation if he orshe is charged with a crime; prohibit peopleconvicted of violent crimes from finishing probationearly; and block violent criminals fromparticipating in early release programs.
